We’ve all been waiting, haven’t we? The anticipation for the Whoop 5.0 fitness tracker has been building for months.
But the silence from Whoop HQ is deafening. Where is it? Has it been scrapped? Or is something big on the horizon?
This post explores the mystery surrounding the missing Whoop 5.0. We’ll investigate the rumors, review recent updates, compare Whoop to the competition, and even create a wishlist for the future.
The Case of the Missing Whoop 5.0
The Whoop 4.0 was released in 2021, meaning we’re overdue for an upgrade. But despite the usual product cycle, Whoop 5.0 is nowhere to be found.
The Reddit Rumor Mill
Whoop users are a dedicated bunch. And they love to speculate! Reddit has been a hotbed for Whoop leaks and rumors in the past.
Remember the initial buzz about an AI-generated screen? That’s where a lot of it started. But lately, it’s been quiet. Crickets, even. Has the rumor mill run dry?
Whoop 5.0 Release Date Predictions & Why They Failed

Many expected the Whoop 5.0 to drop in the Jan 2025 CES. After all, that’s been Whoop’s pattern. But CES has come and gone.
So what happened? One possibility is that Whoop is waiting for the tech release cycle to cool down.
Apple’s recent announcements of the Apple Watch Series 11 and Apple Watch Ultra 3 tend to dominate the news.
It makes sense to wait for the hype to die down before launching a new product.
Whoop’s Quiet Updates: Refining and Adding
While we’re waiting for the next big thing, Whoop hasn’t been completely silent. They’ve been busy refining existing features and adding new ones.
Whoop AI Coach
The Whoop AI Coach is often overlooked, but it’s a powerful tool. This personalized AI assistant can help you create programs and get the most out of your data. It’s like having a personal trainer in your pocket.
Strength Trainer Enhancements
The strength trainer feature has been a game-changer. The most requested feature has been the strength trainer and Whoop delivered.
You can now select weightlifting after you’ve completed an activity. Before, you had to start an activity with a strength trainer and then go through the tedious process of pausing and starting.
Now it automatically calculates your muscle strain load versus cardiorespiratory load.
This update has made the feature much more user-friendly. Because of this update, I’ve personally used this feature a lot more recently!
Smart Scale Integration
Whoop now integrates with Withings smart scales. This integration lets you track your body composition over time.
Monitoring your body composition data in conjunction with Whoop’s other metrics is a great benefit.
The Competition: What Else Is Out There?

While we’re waiting on the Whoop 5.0, let’s take a look at the competition. What else is out there?
Apple Watch Ultra
The Apple Watch Ultra is your ultimate everyday smartwatch. It tracks just about everything.
With cellular connectivity, you can make calls, send texts, and get directions.
Plus, you can use Apple Pay for contactless payments. It takes over as your phone. The downside? Shitty battery life.
Garmin (Fenix)
Garmin is known for its long battery life. Some models last for weeks. The newest Fenix series can make calls and send texts when paired with your phone.
If you’re an endurance athlete or adventurer, this is your go-to smartwatch.
It tracks HRV and V02 Max and has detailed maps for hiking and trail running. The downside? A limited app library compared to Apple Watch.
Oura Ring
The Oura Ring is small and unobtrusive. Its form factor is awesome. It excels at sleep tracking and overall wellness monitoring.
But it’s not the best for fitness and exercise tracking, especially weightlifting.
But it is substantially less expensive than an Apple Watch Ultra or the equivalent from Garmin.
Why I Still Love Whoop (But…)
I’ve been a Whoop member for five years. And I still love it.
The Good Stuff
Whoop is simple and easy to use. It’s constantly updated and improved. You can wear it anywhere on your body.
The waterproof battery pack is a lifesaver. The clasp system is much improved.
The tracking capabilities are ever-expanding. And the Journal feature is unique.
The “But”: A Lack of Innovation?
But it feels a little bit boring. Has Whoop lost its edge? It’s time for some innovation.
Whoop’s Next Level: My Wish List
Here’s what I’d like to see in the Whoop 5.0:

Revolutionize Battery Life
What if Whoop re-engineered the battery? A bigger external battery could charge a smaller internal battery.
This could extend battery life to two weeks, with a day or two on the internal battery.
Overhaul the Sensor Array
Accuracy is key. Whoop needs to upgrade its sensor array to improve data tracking. And please add step tracking!
More Robust Aerobic Training Tracking
Many Whoop users are runners, hikers, and cyclists. We need improved GPS and metrics for tracking these activities.
Effortless Strength Training
The strength trainer feature is popular but tedious. Whoop needs to create a seamless tracking experience for weightlifting. And let us track our weight and progress.
A Touch of Novelty? (Maybe)
I know, some of you don’t want a screen. But what about some subtle additions, like embedded LEDs to indicate strain score and the time? This would make Whoop more of an all-in-one wearable.
The Standout Feature
Whoop needs a “grab your attention” feature. Something to compete with potential innovations like non-invasive glucose monitoring from Apple.
Maybe a partnership with Dexcom or Eight Sleep to revolutionize sleep tracking?
Even Without the 5.0… Would I Still Buy a Whoop?
Yes! I love my Whoop. It’s accurate, reliable, and a huge part of my channel. Plus, the Whoop community is awesome. Ask questions, and interact with other members.
Back to the 5.0: What’s the Holdup?
Word on the street is that Whoop is surveying members about their interest in a screen.
If that’s true, the Whoop 5.0 is probably not coming soon.
What do you think? Is it coming this year or next? What features do you want to see?
If you’re sick of waiting and want to try Whoop, try it for free for 30 days.
when is Whoop 5 coming out
WHOOP hasn’t officially announced a launch date, but rumors suggest a potential release in late 2025. Some sources speculate a September 2025 launch, aligning with WHOOP’s previous release patterns.
